Kayaking Sooke

Explore intertidal sea life, birds and marine mammal such as Harbour Seals, Otter and Sea Lions on your kayaks. Sooke Harbour and Sooke Basin have many nooks and crannies, coves and islands to explore all day long. The basin and harbour are quite sheltered from the open ocean of the Juan de Fuca Strait so it provides a fantastic playground for those beginning to learn how to kayak or have little experience.

For those that are more experienced and bringing their own kayaks to explore, the open waters around the south-west Vancouver Island have much to offer. Explore the rocks and cliffs of East Sooke Park, or head west and search the ruggest coastline. The coastline around Sooke is home to the Resident Orca and their 3 pods which total around 80+ animals. Transient Orca, their distant relative, are always making their way through the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

True whales, such as Humpback, Minke and Grey Whales can also be seen frolicking around in the Strait.

There are a couple of companies in Sooke which offer kayak rentals and lessons as well as day tours.
