Hiking around Sooke

Some of the best hiking on Vancouver Island can be found right here in the Sooke Region. Vast networks of trails, some many well marked, some not, can take you on an adventure through the rainforest, beaches or up along Hurricane Ridge and the Kludak trails in the alpine zone which command amazing views of the Juan de Fuca Strait and the Olympic Mountains located on Washington Strait, US.

The best known  of all hikes on the island is the very well-known West Coast Trail (Pacific Rim), which runs for 48 miles (77 km) along the west coast of Vancouver Island, and lies within the southern boundaries of the Pacific Rim National Park. This 7 to 10-day adventure trek draws hikers from all over the world.

Two of the best easy to intermediate trail systems that can be done in a day or two are the East Sooke Trail and the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail.

The Juan de Fuca Marine Trail offers scenic beauty, spectacular hiking, wildlife viewing, and roaring surf in its course along the Pacific coastline of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Most of the trail is designed for strenuous day or multi-day hiking in this rugged and isolated area. Some easy to moderate day hiking opportunities to the beach or along the trail are available stating from the trail heads at China Beach, Mystic Beach, Sombrio Beach, Parkinson Creek, and Botanical Beach.
